Guest blogging

I was a guest blogger last month at Etsy Vintage Elite, and I realized I forgot to post a link! Here's a blog on why I love 1930s and 1940s fashion:

shop update: 1950s formal wear

I've found an amazing number of fantastic items the past few weeks, and I also have a backlog of items because of moving and starting a new job this past fall. I'm going to try and get as many of these items as I can listed in my shop over the next few weeks. Today I listed some formal clothing from the 1950s. The black skirt is my favorite--it was handmade in Italy and is truly stunning.

Moving sale

I'm moving across the country (from DC to San Francisco), so I'm having a moving sale this week (7/9 to 7/15). Everything in my shop is 25% off!

Here are a couple of new summer items that are part of the sale:

My new dress form!

A few weeks ago I bought a dress form. I had been holding off because I really wanted a vintage Wolf form. They're high quality, and I wanted something a little worn since I sell vintage clothing. But they're hard to find, expensive, and even more expensive when you calculate in shipping price. But finally, I found one at a very reasonable price being sold by someone in Philadelphia (only a couple hours away), so my husband and I went to pick it up ourselves. Here's a picture:

My wedding (and yes, vintage clothing)

Something I want to do on my blog is to share items from my own personal collection of vintage clothing. And I thought the perfect place to start would be my wedding dress. To make a long story short, this was actually the third wedding dress (yes, I know) that I bought for my wedding this past summer. I wasn't looking for it (since I already had two other dresses), but I walked into a local vintage clothing shop, I saw it hanging on the wall, and I knew I had to try it on. When I saw myself in the mirror, I had one of those moments you see on shows like "Say Yes to the Dress." I started tearing up, and then I thought, "I am beautiful," and then, "this is the dress for my wedding." It was a moment that my pragmatic, anti-WIC self wasn't looking for or expecting.

Post-Christmas sale

So, this week I'm having a post-Christmas sale to clear out some of my older stock--everything in the store is automatically 15% off through 12/31. Then, come January, I'll have some great new items, including more knitwear that's perfect for winter! Here's my favorite piece of vintage knitwear currently in my shop (a gorgeous sweater vest in pink and gray):

Colorful vintage coats

I love vintage coats. Most modern coats, unless you're buying from high end labels, don't have the same quality woolen fabrics or the unique detailing that you'll find with their vintage counterparts (isn't this the story of vintage clothing as a whole?). My main struggle is that it's next to impossible for me to find vintage coats with sleeves long enough for my crazy-long arms. The silver lining, especially for you, is that most of the coats I discover won't end up in my closet! Here are a few of the overcoats currently in my shop; these are 1960s wool coats with cool patterns and colors (and who doesn't love a pop of color in their winter wardrobe!):
